What is a cross-border or quasi-cross-border energy community?

The call is open to established cross-border or quasi-cross-border energy communities wishing to advance existing projects or develop new ones.

  • cross-border energy community engages in activities that have a cross-border dimension; for instance, energy may be generated in one border region and distributed, stored, supplied, or consumed in the other.
  • quasi-cross-border energy community shares either its management, funding, or resources with a partner on the other side of the border. Nevertheless, its energy activities or services are implemented exclusively on one side of the border, or independently on both sides within the cross-border area.

Energy communities must be established in a NUTS 3 border region to be eligible.
