You can learn more in the excellent article entitled “Is it possible to travel without destruction? Vacations under climate pressure,” published by our member cooperative Aeioluz on sustainability during summer vacations.

Let’s be clear: mass tourism, as we know it today, is not sustainable in the long term. Its model is based on intensive resource consumption (water, energy, land), precarious local jobs, and the expulsion of residents to favor tourist accommodations. While it may generate temporary economic benefits, the social and environmental costs far outweigh these gains. But we all continue to travel on vacation and consume destinations; it’s time to rethink our patterns and beliefs before the damage we cause to ecosystems and territories becomes irreversible.
